How to Save Instagram Photos and Videos on iPhone

Download any public Instagram photo or video straight to your iPhone — original quality, no app, no login.

Step-by-step: save to iPhone

iPhone and Instagram are a great combination — except that iOS gives you no built-in way to save the photos and videos you love. Screenshots lose quality and capture the app's interface. Here's the clean method: download the original file with InFetch's free tools, using nothing but Safari. No app to install, no login.

  1. Copy the post link. In the Instagram app, tap the share icon (paper plane) under a photo or on a reel, then Copy link. For classic feed posts, tap the three dots (⋯) at the top-right and choose Copy Link.
  2. Open InFetch in Safari. Go to the Photo Downloader for pictures, or the Video Downloader for reels and videos.
  3. Paste and download. Paste the link, tap Download, and when the preview appears, tap the Download button beneath it. If Safari asks whether to allow the download, tap Allow.
  4. Find it in the Files app. Tap the download icon (down arrow) in Safari's address bar to watch progress. Finished files live in the Files app → Browse → Downloads.

Moving downloads to the Photos app

Files downloaded in Safari don't go straight to your Camera Roll — Apple keeps browser downloads in the Files app. Moving them takes seconds:

  1. Open Files → Browse → Downloads and find your file.
  2. Tap the photo to preview it (videos play right in Files too), then tap the Share button.
  3. Choose Save Image or Save Video. It's now in the Photos app like any camera photo — editable, shareable, and backed up to iCloud if you use it.

Tip: create a dedicated album (Photos → Albums → + → New Album, e.g. “Saved from IG”) to keep downloads organized instead of scattered through your Camera Roll.

Multi-photo posts are the hardest to save by hand — swiping and screenshotting ten slides is miserable. Paste a carousel link into the Photo Downloader and InFetch lists every slide separately: download the ones you want, or use Download all to grab the complete set.

What quality will you get?

The original file Instagram stores — typically 1080px on the long edge for photos (1080×1350 portrait, 1080×1080 square) and up to 1080p MP4 for video. InFetch never recompresses or watermarks anything. A screenshot, by comparison, captures your screen at display resolution with UI elements baked in — the downloader's file is always sharper, and video can't be screenshotted at all.

One more iPhone-specific tip: if you use iCloud Photos, files you move to the Photos app sync across your iPhone, iPad, and Mac automatically — download once, available everywhere. And because these are original files, you can edit, crop, or AirDrop them without the generational quality loss you'd get from re-saving screenshots.

Skip the App Store “saver” apps

The App Store has plenty of “Insta saver” apps, but read the fine print: many charge weekly subscriptions for what free web tools do, some harvest your data, and any app asking for your Instagram password is a phishing risk. Apple also removes these apps periodically, breaking your workflow overnight. A browser-based tool keeps working and asks for nothing.

Troubleshooting

  • Accidentally blocked downloads? Go to Settings → Apps → Safari → Downloads and pick a location (iCloud Drive or On My iPhone), then try again.
  • Video won't play? MP4 is native to iOS — if one stutters, it's usually a corrupted partial download. Delete it from Files and re-download on stable Wi-Fi.
  • Download starts but never finishes? Large video files can stall on weak connections. Move closer to your Wi-Fi router, or toggle Airplane Mode on and off to reset the connection, then re-download.
  • Private posts can't be fetched by any legitimate tool — that's by design, not a bug.
